FOTD: My work face

I've revisited Monave Saturnina and I'm falling in love with it all over again. Monave gives an incredible doll-like effect on my skin (I'm not sure if I'm explaining it very well) that I appreciate especially on days wherein my skin isn't cooperating. I got a tan from walking everyday so it's not a perfect match, but it's not that bad that I'll scare kids off.

Maybe I've neglected Monave because of the amazing skin-finish of Lauress, or it may also be because I've been struggling with application of the heavy coverage foundie. Nonetheless, armed with some of my brushes and a little help from undereye concealer, I did my work-face for today (I can't resist - my my my work work face my work work work face).

The before picture shows my skin on a bad day - splotchy and uneven. I slept at 3:00am and woke up at 7:00am, so I think you can guess why my undereyes aren't at their best. Too bad I don't have a digicam, my phone's resolution isn't that great indoors.

Face:
Monave Saturnina loose mineral foundation

Eyes:
Laura Mercier Secret Concealer

Cheeks:
MAC Peachykeen Sheertone Shimmer blush

WIN! A Mika Heart Shu Makeup Brush Set

Hi, my name is Shasta, and I'm a brush addict.

I seriously love high-quality brushes. They make a difference in application of your favorite powders, making the el cheapo blush seem like it's from an expensive brand.

The Beauty Writer is celebrating her entry into the blogging world by giving us all (yup, that means both local and international gals) a chance to win the fabulous Shu Uemura portable brush set which is absolutely drool-worthy!

Check out the rules for joining this exciting contest in this link. She also has other prizes up for grabs.

I am crossing my fingers for this one, I really, really want to win!

Play With Your Stash: Lips

After attempting to get NBI Clearance this Monday for local employment (I hope my schedule works out for this faculty job), I decided to open my drawers and play with some items that I rarely use.

I do apologize for the cam-whorage and the messy hair seen below.

Presenting the toys:

MAC Wild 'Bout You
Maybelline Coverstick
Bobbi Brown lip tint in Posey Shimmer
Avon lip liner in Cherry Red

Step 1: Apply MAC lipstick on top lip, draw bottom lip with Avon lip liner.

Step 2: Make a kissy face and smack lips to mix the 2 colors.

Step 3: Put lip tint for a glossy finish.

Step 4: Bored with the color? Lighten it up with some concealer. (This actually helps prevent the lipstick from drying up my lips because the Maybelline Coverstick is so creamy.)

I encourage you to play with your cosmetics. It's fun and can be a way for you to discover ways to create awesome combinations! I'm already thinking of showing up somewhere with pink lips. Hope I don't shock my friends!

FOTD: Trying out the smokey eye

This is a very glamorous look that many beauty bloggers seem to have mastered (and I'm still practicing). Sunday is my only vacation, so it's on that day that I play with my stash and try to follow the step by step instructions available in various resources to create this runway and real-life staple.

Face:
Adorned With Grace Hope 3.8 (looks lighter than the rest of me here because of lighting, but it matches perfectly in person)

Eyes:
Lauress Revital-Eye primer
Fanny Serrano gel liner
Coastal Scents pressed black mica
Adorned with Grace Beloved loose pigment
Laura Mercier Secret Concealer (my best buy yet)

Lips:
Bobbi Brown lip tint in Posey Shimmer

A poor close-up of the eyes (I wish I had a digicam for blogging and hobby purposes - I'm on a makeup diet until my birthday to get one!). Please excuse the eyebrows, I forgot to groom them (I also neglected my lashes):

Nyahaha, blending skills still need to be improved

Christine (Temptalia) and Cinthia's (ebeautyblog) smokey eye tutorials really helped me attempt this look. Check out their tutorials here and here. I like Temptalia's soft smokey eye with a slight pin-up girl feel, while Cinthia's tutorial is really simple and uses just a few products to maximum effect.

I'm liking my skin now, it's been behaving so far even though it's usually around this time that I start getting dry patches. VMV Superskin 2 system is a great cleanse-tone-moisturize for me. The Superskin 3 set also seems to be working for my sister; her acne has started healing and she hasn't been getting any new ones.

I must have weird eyes/skin because Fanny Serrano gel liner works for me while others can't make it stay put. I don't even put primer for it and here's how it looks at 7am and 4pm:

No flaking, smudging or fading

Maybe I got good stock? What would I do when I run out of gel liner? Any recommendations?

Tagged by Crystal (Musicalfan)

What is your current obsession?
Organizing my drawers. I'm having fun at the Japan 88 store looking at all those plastic dividers and crates.

What is your weirdest obsession?
Not stepping on cracks on the pavement. I'm not superstitious but I've developed the habit of doing so.

What are you wearing today?
A house dress. It's very hot in the Philippines right now, and it's the next best thing to wearing nothing.

What's your favorite comfort food?
Oh... I love food. Talk to me about food. Comfort food for me isn't a single dish/snack, it would be bacon, McDonalds, siomai, chocolate, cake, mangoes, La Paz batchoy, chicharon, and all those unhealthy treats.

What would make today special?
Today it rained. That's enough to make me smile.

What would you like to learn to do?
Speak 5 languages fluently (Japanese, German, Spanish, French, Italian).

When's the last time you saw a rainbow?
I believe it was last month, coming home from Fontana.

What are you listening to right now?
The television in the living room, it's set to Discovery Travel and Living. I think Ian Wright is talking right now.

What is your favourite weather?
Rainy or chilly weather. I like Japanese fall/winter.

What is your most challenging goal right now?
It would probably be paving the way towards becoming a faculty. Finding a reliever in my profession is hard!

What do you think about the person who tagged you?
I like Crystal because she seems to have lots of talents! I'd love to be able to play a musical instrument like her! Crystal also makes honest and interesting posts which I love checking out.

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be?
JAPAN! Somewhere in Tokyo (because somebody else is paying for it, I can afford to have it near the train station and with lots of tatami mats inside one room) or in Kyoto. Or even Sapporo. Oh, how I miss that place.

What would you like to have in your hands right now?
I'd love to have french fries right now.

If you could swap lives with anyone for one day who would it be and why?
I'd love to walk in the shoes of a toddler. It amazes me that those little tykes could experience so much in a single day!

If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
I'd love to go to the Louvre. Can I make it a week so I can fully explore that place?

Which language do you want to learn?
Japanese, definitely.

What do you look for in a friend?
Friends are people you can trust and those who can challenge you to become better.

What quality/trait would you like your enemy to have?
I'd love for him/her to have a sense of humor. At least our fights won't be boring.

Who do you want to meet in person?
Oh, to be able to chat with Robin Williams...

What’s your favourite type of music?
Classical, Rock, Disco/Dance, Broadway and Alternative

What is your favourite piece of clothing you own?
I have socks with toes! They never fail to make me laugh.

What is your dream job?
Any job that would take me all over the world! I'd also love to be a fashion designer, or a firefighter.

Any favourite models?
Liya Kebede is gorgeous.

If you had £100 now what would you spend it on?
I'd spend it on a digital camera (DSLR), or I'd buy my mom an exercise bike.

Thing you wish you could change in your past?
I wish I had been more adventurous. I'm kicking myself in the butt for not ticking '1 year' instead of '1 month' when I was chosen for an exchange student program.

Fashion pet peeve?
Skinny jeans. I never look good in them.

Do you admire anyone’s style?
I love the stuff that I see in Sea of Shoes. It's amazing how creative that blogger is, and how resourceful she is with her vintage stuff.

Describe your personal style.
I'm more of a T-shirt and jeans kind of person, but lately I've been investing in blouses for a more professional look. I like kitschy and funky stuff, like my favorite pair of fork and spoon earrings which I made.

What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
Mocha!

What is your favourite makeup brand?
I'm not loyal to one brand, but I'd love to try out Stila products.

Do you get enough beauty sleep? Yes or no, and why?
Nooooooo... I'm bad at following a consistent and healthy routine. I always spend the nights typing or doing something work-related. Sad but ce'st la vie!

Okay, here are the rules:
1. Respond and rework: answer the questions on your blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own.
2. Tag eight other people.

I tag anybody who'd like to do this!
